Gyroscope and accelerometer: what they're for and how to test them
The gyroscope in a smartphone isn't just for games. It's used for video stabilisation when filming, for navigation in augmented reality apps and for auto-rotating the interface when you tilt the device. If after a repair the phone stopped rotating the screen or AR apps report missing sensors — the IMU module cable was most likely damaged or not reconnected during disassembly. This test shows values in real time: tilt the phone — all three axes should respond. If any axis always shows zero or a constant value — the sensor is faulty. On a PC without an accelerometer all values will be zero; that's normal.
