How to test your microphone and find out why nobody can hear you
It happens: the microphone seems to be there, the system indicator moves, yet people on calls say they can barely hear you. The most common cause is that a laptop's built-in microphone outputs a very quiet signal because the mic hole is clogged with dust, or the ribbon cable contact is loose. This test shows the real signal level in real time: if the bar barely moves when you speak loudly — the problem is hardware. You can also play back a recording to assess sound quality. If you hear crackling, hiss or distortion — a microphone module replacement is most likely needed. An external USB microphone as a temporary fix will confirm it: if it works fine, the built-in one is definitely faulty.
