Dead pixel: how to find it in 5 minutes without software

A dead pixel is a dot on the screen that is permanently stuck on one colour or has stopped lighting up entirely. Spotting it on a regular desktop is almost impossible because it gets lost among icons and windows. This test fills the entire screen with a solid colour — making any abnormal dot immediately visible. It's recommended to check black, white and the primary colours. A black dot on a white background is a dead pixel. A bright dot on black is a stuck pixel. On IPS panels, pay particular attention to backlight uniformity across the corners of the screen. Before buying a second-hand laptop or monitor, this test is an essential first step.
