Speaker test: how to find the faulty channel

If one side of a laptop or a speaker set has sound while the other is silent or crackles, that's a clear sign of a problem with a speaker or an amplifier. This test lets you play audio separately through the left and right channels, and also check low, mid and high frequency reproduction. It's especially handy when buying second-hand gear: in two minutes you can confirm both channels are alive and the sound is clean. Crackling on low frequencies is a classic symptom of a torn speaker cone. A missing channel is most often a detached contact or a blown amplifier. After a service repair it's convenient to verify the result right here without installing any extra software.
